Rednecks at the Fair

Weekends are the best.  I'm happiest from 5:00pm Friday until bedtime on Sunday, especially when my entire weekend plan is to hang out with friends!  Amanda created a weekend of festivities that we just couldn't refuse.

Friday afternoon we rushed out of work. We had to get to the Dixie Classic Fair as soon as possible.  We spent hours pushing through crowds to see the pig races and the hypnotist (still unsure how I feel about this), and shuffled through prized chickens, cows, rabbits, goats, and horses.  As for those of you who went to the fair I'm sure you were also disappointed to find out the dogs on skates were not in fact real dogs, they were humans dressed as dogs.  I'm still upset about this.

But let's not pretend we don't know the real reason to grace the fair every year... the food.  We, as a whole, consumed corn dogs, root beer floats, fried oreos, fried macaroni, fried twinkies, fried snickers, steak and cheese subs, Italian sausages, funnel cakes, elephant ears, turkey legs, grilled corn, and kettle corn.  Needless to say we rushed into the fair and at closing time waddled out of the fair.

Here's a photo recap...

Saturday afternoon was spent running errands, hitting up the pumpkin patch with Meg, and making delicious apps for our Redneck BBQ.  More on the recipes later.

If you wonder how a newly married couple decorates for a redneck BBQ.  It's easy.  They unwind the hose, throw hoes, rakes, and shovels into the yard, and hang beer cans like a wind chime.  They draw pictures, hang Dale Jr. memorabilia on the mantle and buy old ceramic kittens from the Goodwill.  They use towels as seat covers and table cloths, and of course provide beer, cheese puffs, cheese whiz and saltines, and pork rinds for their guests.  Country music plays in the background while wrestling (wrastling) is on the tube.

our hosts, Destini and Leroy
So, as you can tell the weekend was full of laughs and well, more laughs.  The pups played hard and my Sunday was spent watching Cam Newton throw away a game winning pass.  Seahawks, shmehawks.

Dear Future Husband,

Do not even think about proposing unless it's a flash mob proposal like this...

Why does it seem as if mosquitoes find me more delectable than other people?

The bloodsuckers are drawn to a tasty dinner by a variety of signals, including heat, carbon dioxide, movement and the smell of skin secretions like lactic acid. One study even found that mosquitoes tend to prefer people who have recently downed a beer. No one knows the precise combination mosquitoes find the most irresistible, but if you seem to be their meal of choice, wear repellent and pass on the brew.

Wellies

I've been dying for a pair of Wellies.  Of course, not just any pair.  Hunter makes the best.  What I didn't realize were how many options they had. A few of these you'll never catch me dead in.  For example...

These on the other hand will be mine... and soon!

30 Ways To Make Your 20s Better

Thanks to Ashley and The Thought Catalog I was provided the link to this fabulous information.  Seriously, if you're in your (late) 20s take some of the advice to heart.  It's pretty good.  Friends, pay specific attention to numbers 23 and 24.  Whose up for Vegas round three!?!

If the world doesn't end in 2012, make plans to kill it in 2013.  I intend to do just that!

Rain, Wind, and a Lake

Waking up way too early because of extreme winds is obnoxious.  Waking up because of extreme winds, a torrential downpour , and finding your nephew's kayak floating in the lake is a nightmare.

Thoughts running through my head during my unplanned morning swim in the rain...

Spice Up Your Life

In a completely random thought at work today I wondered... do the Spice Girls still live up to their self proclaimed names? Okay, I was listening 90s pop on Pandora and Wannabe came on so the thought wasn't completely random but go with it.

Of course this prompted a bit of research on my behalf.  I didn't mind because honestly, if the Spice Girls announced a world tour I can guarantee not only would I go but my closest girlfriends would be all over it too.

So, here are a few current events facts everyone should know about our favorite female group.  Oh, and you're welcome!

Ginger Spice (Geri Halliwell) speaks Spanish and has a daughter named Bluebell Madonna (unfortunate but true).  Rumors indicate she may or may not (probably yes) be dating Russell Brand.  Really?  First Katy Perry and now Ginger.  Do people really find him attractive?

Emma Bunton  aka Baby Spice (I honestly don't think I ever knew what her real name was) is the host for Heart FM Saturday evening slot (4p-7p).  I am assuming this is a radio program but I would imagine that being a Spice Girl would earn her a more desirable slot.  Seems pretty painful to have to host a radio program every Saturday.  For her sake I hope it's prerecorded.  She also was a judge on Dancing on Ice... I'm not sure how I feel about this.  Her sons are Beau Lee Jones and Tate Lee Jones.  Again with the interesting baby names.

Sporty Spice (Mel C) is legit still selling albums.  Who knew?  She holds the third position for most United Kingdom number-ones by a female artist.  I thought she'd be the least interesting research project, but I'm impressed.

Mel B or Scary Spice, however you want to refer to her is fine with me.  Interesting fact.  Did you know that Mel B and Eddie Murphy have a daughter together?  This is news to me.  Regardless of who her baby daddy is, I love her.  She was a fave of mine on Dancing with the Stars (yup, I went there).  She rocks.  That's the most important thing.

Posh, the ultimate Spice Girl.  What could I tell you that you don't already know.  She's beautiful, she's married to a beautiful man, and they have beautiful children.  Not to mention she's friends with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.  No bitterness here.

Okay Spice Girls, stop teasing us! Puhleeze get it together for reunion tour 2013!
